It would be smarter to transfer the excess staff from the old project into construction of the new project. Ultimately the company is losing a resource to jump what it thinks will be a greater investment but all AI requires training so its quite possible they lose more then they gain. Its not really a feature of AI that jobs cutting equates to saving money, companies have been doing that for decades. Oracle could just borrow the money to do both at once, the point is they cant find enough work to justify keeping those staff paid ongoing as a cost. AI is a demand industry for now they estimate will in future bring a profitable workload, many people are warning the demand is going to fall through but so far it appears to be a growth industry.
