During the protest, the US embassy was seized, and some workers were captured or something like that (I don't recall the details), but what I'm trying to say is, it was at this point that Iran started focusing on proxies and nuclear programs and all. I'm not here to blame Iran or the West for the state of the country today, I just wanted to give you the back story of the sanctions.
