The bots used at the time are just to give you different prices of a coins on each exchanges of your choice and it was working well for some people. Arbitrage can still be very possible but it requires high amount of money. Another thing is that someone needs to be careful of the altcoins that have high price volatility. No trading is not risky. Good thing you clear it out. Arbitrage trading is buying low and selling high using different exchanges. So bots like that surely help out the arb trader. The reason must be on why an arb trader needs more money now, is because many exchanges are now aware of this practice and one of their measures to prevent it, is by increasing the transaction fees. We are now on the era of AI but bots alone might have improved too on the arbitrage field. That makes it possible for the arb traders to still choose a highly risky coins, since bots are specializes in quick movements. I would say even AI can't make a big difference out of this. The system is simple, you do not need AI power to do this, you can do it with a very simple bot. The entire logic is that, no matter how many exchanges you use, to go and read and find the price, and compare the prices, and compare the fee's and then you end up calculating if there is a profit to be made, it's very simple, as long as there is a big enough difference to make some profit then the machine does it, if not then it does not. This doesn't require AI, but the reality is that most of the time it's very small amount and very rarely happens and since there are thousands of bots around who are looking for the same, you could actually try to do it and be late to it and fail.
